The Friesian is a very old breed of horse dating back 100's of years, it has varied from a war horse for Knights and Kings, a work horse for farmers through the 100 year depression, a fancy harness or riding horse for the wealthy, to the sporthorse we see today. They have changed in stature and size depending on the time and requirements, but above all else, one thing has always remained the same, their nature. They are intelligent, loving, kind and playful, they genuinely enjoy human contact, so why not try something with a little more pizazz?

Mission Statement:     Our aim as breeders of pure and partbred Friesian horses, is to ensure the public are aware of these beautiful animals, to promote them through demonstrations and competitions, and to show that the Friesian is not a heavy 'draft horse', but a capable and loving sporthorse. Our purebreds are bred from quality sound riding horses, from bloodlines of proven disposition, and to meet their breed standards. We do not breed 'lookalike' partbreds, but breed for their ability to take the best of the Friesian, and make the horse into your best friend, loving companion, and feirce competitor.

Husband and wife team David and Donna have been breeding Friesians since 2003, the step came after David gave Donna a 75% Friesian gelding for her birthday the year before, 'the moment this horse came into our lives we were smitten'. Not too soon after the purchase came the decision to breed these sweet animals.

We only have a small band of quality mares, but all mares were chosen for their overall Look, Type, Conformation, Personality and Bloodline. We are believers of keeping all our breeding mares as riding horses, ensuring that we test their temperaments under the conditions that buyers are likely to want their offspring working under. We DO NOT own a broodmare.

We produce foals to meet their breed standards, but to also be strong sound riding horses capable of all disciplines, be it Dressage, Showing, Driving, Pleasure and all round safe family mounts. Our horses are all of classic to modern build, leaving behind the heavier 'work horse' of the past. This will give you the buyer a smoother ride, allowing the horse a longer gait freedom of shoulder, and a more athletic horse.

Our mares are all well proven successful riding horses, tested under competition, and long distance riding conditions, they are sound of mind and body, we pride ourselves of producing this in our progeny. We cover all disciplines, with mares capable of many or all disciplines themselves, and we have a variety of heights and sizes to cater for all the public's likes.

Our stallion selection is made much easier now than in the past, with the import of many 'permitted' stallions, and the availability of frozen semen, our choices are now endless, chosing the correct match for our mares is now so much easier, and fun!

We also have our own young stallion 'Isador', Izzy was breed for success having World Champions on both sides of his pedigree. Both Izzy's sire and dams sire were multiple world and reserve champions, and were/are both successful dressage competitors. His breeding is impeccable, temperament devine, Isador has very large boots to fill..

At Raven's Lodge we understand the financial as well as emotional strain purchasing a new horse can cause. We like to make sure the partnership between you and your new horse is the best it can be. We offer no pressure, we like you to take your time, and know the decision is the right one for you, we offer advice and further contacts for you to look around. Payment plans are available on all horses, hoping to help relieve a little of the burden, so you can buy your dream horse.

Tailor your own Foal:   The easiest and best way to ensure you get exactly what you want, is to tailor your own! We have locally bred and imported mares available for your use, its as simple as choose your mare and stallion (chilled and in some cases frozen) combination, and leave the rest to us (and the mare...). This also allows you to pay your very own foal off over a longer period of time.

1. Pay your deposit on chosing the combination.
2. Pay your next installment on positive pregnancy.
3. Pay monthly installments until weaning - 6mths of age.
4. Take your very own foal home!

Lease a mare:   Every year we have one or two mares available for 'Lease', this gives you the opportunity to breed and bond with your foal at home from day 1. As you will understand, our mares are very special to us, so this arrangement may not be possible for everyone. Approved clients only, terms are to be strictly adhered to, fees to be paid in advance.
