PERFOMNCE EQUINE DENTISTRY ?
-Professional handling of your horse - Thorough examinations - '3 point Balance' which is the correct function of the incisors , molars and the TMJ (temporomandibular joint)
-Consultation on correct bit selection - Advice on nutrition and responsible dental care
Why do horses teeth need regular maintenance ?
- Unlike our teeth , horses teeth oninue to grow throughout thei life (approx 2-3mm p/year) . Due to the way horses grind food and their anatomy, they develop sharp buccal edges (o cusps) on the outside of the upper teeth(molars) and lingual cusps on the inside of the lower teeth (molars). Horses, in particular perfomance horses which are fed high/not on the ground (fence troughs etc) develop sharp ramps and hooks due to the lack of wear (malocclusion) of the molar arcades.
All these factors cause discomfort to your horse. Putting pressure on the cheeks and tongue , which in turn cause ulcers and lacerations in the mouth and add pressure on the TMJ.
Marnie Wood Perfomance Equine Dentistry is able to correct these issues and ensure that your horse is comfortable and in good health. This makes for a happy and safer horse.
