Amberley Charolais
Stud History
Amberley Stud was established in 1970 after reading about the Charolais' exceptional growth rate in 1968-1969.
Four females were inseminated the first year. All produced bull calves ,so a first cross heifer was then purchased. “Charlotte” lived to the old age of 18 producing 14 heifers and 2 bull calves.
The base cows used in the 1970 were various poll beef breeds. The aim of the stud from day one was poll animals and as soon as poll pure bred bulls were available these were used: Lazy JR Cadet 5C in 1974,Power in 75, Crown in 76, Canadian Meridian in 77.
In 1980 Mandalong Robert (P) was purchased and then in 1983 a Canadian bull Quality Polled RCMPwas imported to Australia taking 18 months to get through quarantine.
Poll bulls have always been used in the paddock and to introduce new blood lines an embryo programme has been undertaken with various bulls used on the studs top females to produce poll bulls:. Tattenhall Impeccable, Coat Lezard, Fleets Vibrant, Sparrows Sheriff.
Bulls used in later years include Seawell Offshore and Baldridge Fasttrack.
Bulls currently in use are Amberley Xpert (P) by Seawell Offshore, Amberley Xpand(P) grand son ofSparrows Sheriff and Amberley Zachariah (P) by Baldridge Fasttrack.
We held our own bull sale locally for 5 years. Amberley stud bulls have also been sold in the past at Toowoomba and Rockhamptom Qld. I now sell at Tamworth National in NSW. Whittlesea Southern Breeders in Victoria and Naracoorte Bull Sale in S.A. Females and embryo for available for private sale.
