Granite Ridge Angus Stud
Granite Ridge Angus Stud is based at Reedy Creek in the lower SE of South Australia. A property of 2000 acres which has high & low land, improved pastures and irrigation, a combination that is just right for a cattle stud.
The Stud is worked by Colin and Pat, giving them complete hands on control and you have the assurance that all care and effort goes into the enterprise as Granite Ridge is first and foremost a Seed Stock Producer.
We are not the oldest Stud in Australia, But we do have cows whose ancestry can be traced back to 1934, when heifers were originally imported out from Scotland. Granite Ridge has bought some of the oldest and also some of the leading genetics found in Australia, causing us to leap frog to the forefront of Angus breeding. We look to purchase the top cows that are available.
We have brought together a herd of elite females from a number of leading studs eg. Narrangullen, Comfort Hill, Tibooburra, Lawsons, Willow Fields, Vermont , The Basin, Willalooka and The Grange.
We have a huge pool of genetics to work with and we spend much time and money on selecting the right Sire for each Female, sourcing Sires from USA, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. We extensively use AI and also speed up the genetic move forward by flushing the top cows for Embryo Transfer.
Each year the proof of our selections is standing on the ground and we are proud to offer them for sale – at auction or privately.
As a seed stock breeder our responsibility is to focus on the genetic improvement to the Angus Cattle Breed.
This year we have focused on testing all at risk animals for the AM and NH genetic defects.
